Local Projects worked with The Shockoe Institute, headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, to define their vision, and design their flagship exhibit, Expanding Freedom.
The exhibit transforms a story that is ostensibly known—America’s history of slavery—into a narrative that is told as unapologetic truths, and experienced as the lives of individuals. The exhibit culminates in a space designed for visitor-driven exploration and continued agency.
