The Courage Museum
Transforming passive bystanders into active defenders.
Overview
Violence isn't just an event; it's a learned behavior. To break the cycle, Futures Without Violence asked us to create the world's first cultural institution dedicated to prevention. Unlike a history museum that looks back at tragedies, the Courage Museum looks forward. It functions as a training ground for empathy, placing visitors inside realistic scenarios of bullying and abuse to challenge the "bystander effect" that makes us look away.

The Details
We structured the museum as a psychological journey. It begins in the "Rethink Gallery," which uses data and history to deconstruct the myth that violence is innate. The experience then shifts from theory to practice, immersing visitors in interactive simulations of real-world conflict. By presenting critical choice points throughout the exhibits where a visitor must decide how to intervene in a difficult situation, we allow people to rehearse the small moments of bravery required to stop hate in the real world.
